The short answer to that question is, it depends! However in this article I will try to give you an idea of how much you should expect to budget when considering a bedroom project.
In 2025 the average cost for a fitted bedroom is around £5000, that should include design, supply and installation, but as I said previously it depends on several factors. So let me break it down for you, so you can get a better idea of how we ended up with that number.
- Size, obviously the bigger the space, the more cabinets it requires, but for the sake of this article let me use an example of the most commissioned project. Large, floor to ceiling, two boxes with four doors approximately 2 metres in length, with a couple of shelves inside and hanging rail. For that you can expect a price in the region of £2000-£3000
- Who’s building them. Different companies charge different prices. But one thing you cannot avoid with a large company is VAT, small company, or a one-man band could be under the threshold so you can save the additional twenty percent which on £5k is another £1000
- Drawers, depending on materials and construction method price can vary between £150 to £300 per drawer. So, a unit with six drawers could cost in the regions of £1200 to £2300. Another reason why drawers are quite pricy is the hardware. Good quality runners cost around £30-£40 for a pair.
- Materials, for wardrobes generally MDF or hardwood ply are fine and not expensive choices. Baltic birch ply, oak veneers, and solid woods can add to the total bill
- LED strips, again depending on the complexity, but a single LED strip on the top panel connected to a pressure switch (it turns on and off when you open and close the door) could cost another £400-£500
All this brings us to a conclusion that on a smaller side, you can get a bespoke bedroom built in the region of £2500-£3000, for larger more complex design prices of £6000-£7000 should be expected.
I hope this information has given you a bit of clarity as to what it goes into pricing handmade wardrobes, if you have any questions feel free to drop me a comment below.
