We shape our homes, thereafter they shape us!

Actually, the real quote from Sir Winston Churchill goes: ''We shape our buildings, thereafter they shape us!''. He said that in a speech in 1943 in the context of rebuilding the House of Commons following its destruction during the Blitz. But I like my version better! Mainly because it implies that you don't have to build a skyscraper or a cathedral to make a difference. In fact even the small details can have a big impact. There is a lot that can be achieved by installing the right kitchen, bedroom, library etc, but what goes in preparation for the bespoke interior is just as important. And as such I like to keep as much as possible in house. That way I can ensure the quality in the fine details. Unfortunately I cannot do everything, below you can find a list of things I can help you with, for everything else I have a network highly of qualified and efficient tradesmen (plumbers, electricians, bricklayers etc) who join me on jobs when needs be.
Plastering and Rendering

Including all kinds of undercoat and lime plaster, plaster boarding, partition walls, covering Artex. Even some aspects of decorative plaster mouldings although I’m not experts in that field I could do small repairs.

First and Second fix Carpentry

For most of the renovation projects I cover everything, from framing through door hanging to installing skirting boards and architrave. Generally, I wouldn’t work on roof structures, unless it is a small one.

Painting and Decorating
All aspects of painting and decorating including the old fashion methods of decorative painting such as rag rolling. I also do wallpapering, but I’d be cautious about working with designer wallpaper. Due to the difference in the cost of materials and labour in favour of the former it leads to a potential liability.

Smart Homes
Some of my furniture is integrated within the home’s electrical system. For wardrobes it generally means an LED strip connected to one of the doors making it automatic. Open the door the light comes on, close it goes off. Sometimes we go as far as to install motion sensors under bedside tables so when you get out of bed and your feet touch the ground a discreet light comes on. This is part of what is known as home automation or smart home installation. What that allows you to do is to control everything (that’s connected) in your home remotely and program it. For example you can raise or lower your blinds at certain time in the day programming it to be done automatically. I am not an electrician myself and I don’t personally offer this service, however I have a great working relationship with a local company specializing in home automation, and that allows us to offer our clients the option of integrating my furniture within a smart home system. This opens a door for so many possibilities that I don’t think I could even begin to list all, but if you can think of it, we can probably build it! Check out Capricorn Electrical, click here!
